Manfred von Richthofen Commemoration

21 April 2018 marks the centennial of the demise of Rittmeister Baron Manfred von Richthofen, being shot down and killed near Vaux-sur Somme, France.  WWI aviation historians from around the world have visited this site and more plan on perhaps some informal commemoration there, the morning of, to mark the day.

Known activities being planned include:

  • 9:00am Walk from Le Hamel to Vaux-sur-Somme beginning at 9am,
  • 10:00am until 2pm Village square-presentation of the replica of von Richthofen’s DR-1 by the Digger association
  • 6:00pm showing of Peter Moers’ documentary-The Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen
  • 7:00pm showing of Roger Cormans’ The Red Baron

Also, activities are scheduled for the Fricourt area in the afternoon of 21 April

A very small group has let The League of World War One Aviation Historians know of such potential plans and are inquiring whether others World War I aviation historians might have similar intentions in hopes to better organize and coordinate efforts.
